It is followed by a brief memorial. Between that memorial and the obituary here, the two list his accomplishments as: Director of the (MCF) North venue, peptide chemist, respected scientist, Navy veteran, creation advocate, cherished family man, scientist and servant of Christ. All very true, and for this tribute, I want to add what is for me perhaps both his most understated but most defining personal trait that was apparent to me through the years that I knew him. That trait is visionary. Ken was a visionary who saw clearly two things: 1. Our creator God, and 2. Our human need for salvation. As a man of science who used science to solve a hard to address human need (he assisted with the development of Lupron, a treatment widely used for prostate cancer and hormone-related conditions), Ken was aware of the power of science to address difficult needs in ways that could be made understandable and discernable. As the drug whose creation he had contributed to treats the human body, it is clear Ken wanted the concrete, discernable truths of science applied to God's creation to treat the disbelief in the human heart and mind. Accordingly he worked tirelessly to bring top notch scientists and speakers, who could apply the methods of science to demonstrate the truth of God, so that "...by all possible means I might save some" (1 Cor 9.22) as the apostle Paul says. It was that desire to see the truth of science help form and sustain the truth of God in unbelievers and believers alike that motivated his tireless efforts to get knowledgeable speakers and scientists into MCF to speak of creation from all areas of science. It was that vision that kept him searching for ways to further extend the outreach to allow the truth of science to drive home the truth of creation and our need for our creator. The last vision I am aware that he was working on over the past year: an effort to create a powerful, culturally impactful message and ministry by combining forces and messaging of all the major creation ministries. To help make sure the messages given at MCF were viewable by as many people as possible, Ken was instrumental in setting up the video recordings and the administrative talent needed for the MCF YouTube channel, where at any time of day or night you can hear the many talks given at MCF by leaders in the creation field. The joy of seeing his vision of science supporting creation being fulfilled was palpable at presentations like those by Dr Andrew Snelling who presented original scientific research that showed how his research supported creation. I remember his smile and joy after the presentation to this day. But Ken was also pragmatic, and realized that PhDs are not the only ones who are knowledgeable about creation, so speakers range from scientists to educators. Perhaps one of his greatest contribution to support the truth of God's word concerning creation, which has joined the chorus of evidences sounding the death knell of evolution - (both Darwinian and Neo) a contribution which I suspect will one day be one of the lead voices, was his vision and introduction of the concept of the Creation Information Barrier. I don't think most creationists or evolutionists have yet recognized the power of this argument. I've worked to clarify and extend the relevance of this concept and the power of the truth it contains in the article I wrote about it: "CIB: Like Superman with no Kryptonite Weakness." His CIB argument is unique in that once understood, it cannot be refuted. Most arguments in support of creation boil down to some impossibly low probability as far as evolutionists are concerned. But as long as there is some chance - regardless of how impossibly low, evolutionists conclude it must have happened, because here we are. Ken's Creation Information Barrier argument removes that saving device of "it's possible" because his argument shows that evolution is not merely improbable, it is completely impossible. Yes, you read that correctly. Ken Funk's Creation Information Barrier Argument shows that evolution is impossible, not merely improbable. Apart from a treatment that helps the temporary body, the lasting legacy of this creationist visionary are things which can leave eternal benefits: a platform from which the truths of creation are proclaimed across the internet 24 x 7 through the persuasive method of science; and an irrefutable argument for creation which, once properly understood, leaves no doubt that you are a product of a loving creator God, not the result of mindless accidents occurring over millions or billions of years. Ken provided a way for many to learn the truth of God through the science of creation, and has armed all who want to share Creation with a truth about creation that is irrefutable. An appropriate legacy for a Christian scientist who walked the path of a visionary for God.
